Portraits of Elder Oaks
Photographic mosaics of the elder oak trees of the Helen Putnam Regional Park in Sonoma County. These grand old trees are hundreds of years old; they are witnesses to the changes to the landscape that has taken place in California since the arrival of The Europeans. The portraits are high-resolution photographic mosaics composed from up to 50 individual photographs captured from under the tree canopy in a quarter-spherical pattern. These images are then digitally stitched together and flattened, in a manner similar to a map of the spherical globe, to create these enveloping images. Portraits of Elder Oaks is an ongoing photographic project.
Prints are available on a custom-print basis and may be printed on photographic paper up to 60” in the short dimension, and on canvas up to 96”.
