Polyptychs

A traditional form of sacred art that originated, with the ancient Greeks, as diptychs containing written texts. The Romans adapted the diptych as an art form and, in the middle ages, the form was again adapted for ecclesiastical purposes. Diptychs traditionally consisted of two panels with a central binding. Polyptychs were a further development where multiple painted panels were combined into larger pieces of art -typically an altarpiece. I have adopted and adapted the polyptych as a contemporary narrative art form.

The polyptychs utilize photographic imagery printed on a variety of media including art papers, vellum, transparency film, and fabric. The materials of the structural elements of the polyptychs include wood, aluminum, plexiglass, and cement board.
